2016 SOUTHEASTERN ASCE STUDENT CONFERENCE

 

          This semester, we are hoping to send 75 of our members to the ASCE Southeastern Student Conference in Tuscaloosa, AL in mid-March (exact dates are TBD). This conference is a gathering of students from all ASCE student chapters across the Southeast. It addition to providing invaluable networking opportunities, it serves as a competition arena. Schools participating in the conference compete in various aspects of Civil Engineering including but not limited to: surveying, steel bridge construction, concrete canoe racing, and technical writing. These, along with other competitions, serve as a metric for seeing how the students in our program can tackle real-world engineering problems, while having fun at the same time. These competitions are judged by local licensed engineers, who then provide feedback on how to better sharpen the skills tested in battle. Our chapter consistently is among the top overall finishers at the conference; however we have the goal to take first overall, allowing us to compete at the national level in the competitions we are able to.
