COMMUNITY SERVICE

MARGARET MEAD

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."

MATHCOUNTS is a middle school mathematics competition held in the spring of every year at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering. Middle school students from around the Tallahassee area compete against each other in hopes of moving on to compete at the state, and eventually, the national level. Volunteering for MATHCOUNTS is a great way to help sculpt some of the brightest mathematics students into future engineers!

One event that our club participates in is the Sustainable Tallahassee 5k. The Trash Dash 5k is an awareness marathon on how cleaning up the enviroment and cleaning up the community is extremely important to keeping the Big Bend area beautiful.

LINCOLN SCHOOL

SUPER SCIENCE SATURDAYS

Lincoln School located in Tallahassee, Fl. has been very proactive on their students education. One directive they have started is STEM weekends. Every Saturday a certain aspect of STEM, such as forensics, has been presented their students to show the vast amount of oppurtunities for future job possibilities. ASCE was fortunate enough to be asked to present an interactive lecture on bridge building with a hands on excersice for the students to design and construct a bridge out of everyday household materials.

SCIENCE FAIR

INCREASING STEM WITHIN OUR COMMUNITY

Our club activiely participates in science fair compeitions as judges as well as give presentations to visitng students. Increasing awareness to STEM is one of our club goals in the Tallahassee community. By closing the gap between the youth and collegiate levels, the younger generation can see what it means to be an engineering major. Let's face it, engineering holds a taboo for being hard, but by showing the youth that they have the potential to be future engineers, that makes all the difference.

The American Red Cross is a staple to our community in giving blood to those that have been injured or need it. A simple 5 minutes can make the difference in a persons life. That is why our chapter actively participates in a Blood Drive to support our Tallahassee community.
